Presentations, Workshops, and Panel Opportunities
Are you a professional author or publishing expert with knowledge to share? We’re inviting experienced writers, editors, and industry professionals to volunteer as presenters, workshop leaders, or panelists at Wordbridge.
What Can You Present?
We welcome a wide range of presentation topics, including but not limited to:
- Industry insight: querying, publishing (indie or traditional), working with agents, book marketing, building an author platform.
- Craft & technique: editing, poetry, story structure, character development, grammar, critique groups, formatting, and more.
- Genre-specific topics: worldbuilding in fantasy, horror techniques, writing romance or memoir, children’s books, YA and middle grade fiction, non-fiction.
- Community & connection: engaging with writing communities, finding your voice, or building sustainable creative habits.

Whether you want to run a solo workshop, collaborate with another writer, or join a panel discussion with 3–4 others, we’re excited to hear your ideas!
Over the years, Wordbridge has featured an incredible lineup of diverse, talented presenters from across Alberta — writers, editors, publishers, and educators who generously share their time and insight. We’re proud of the community we’ve built, and we’re always looking to expand it with fresh voices and new perspectives.
What’s in it for You?
While this is a volunteer role, we offer:
- Complimentary admission to the full 2-Day Conference
- Your name and session featured on our website and social media
- Networking opportunities with other writers, editors, and attendees
- The opportunity to sell your books at our Shared Authors’ Table
- Discount rates for accommodation with our partner, Lethbridge’s Wingate by Wyndham Hotel
- For editors, the chance to participate in our Blue Pencil Cafés (depending upon quantity of author submissions)

How to Apply
To be considered, simply complete our Presenter Application Form. You’ll be asked to provide:
- A short bio and photo
- Your professional background and experience
- A brief proposal for your presentation, workshop, or panel topic
- If you also want to be a Blue Pencil editor, you must submit a separate application here.
Applications are open by the end of April each year (post-conference) and close by November 1st for the following year’s conference. You’ll be contacted in December regarding your application’s status.
Let’s inspire, connect, and grow together. We can’t wait to hear what you have to share.
Note: Be sure to check your junk mail regularly so you don’t miss our response! You’ll be contacted regarding the status of your application in December regardless of whether it is accepted, rejected, or waitlisted, so if you don’t receive any response, the application either was not received or our response ended up in your junk mail. Please feel free to reach out if you are uncertain if your submission was received.

Important Notice for Authors and Author Assistants:
This conference does not currently offer paid presentation opportunities. This is stated clearly and repeatedly on our website and submission form, and must be explicitly acknowledged during the application process. Due to repeated issues in past years with applicants submitting proposals via assistants without any intention of attending once approved, we are implementing the following policy: Submitting an application without the genuine intention to attend, then declining after approval on the basis of non-payment after explicitly acknowledging this condition, constitutes a misuse of our time and resources. Applicants who do so may be permanently barred from all future Wordbridge conference presenter opportunities, including possible future paid opportunities. We expect professionalism, respect for volunteer-run arts organizations, and good-faith engagement. Author assistants should not apply unless they fully understand and respect these policies.
