While Wordbridge is best known for our annual Writers’ Conference, our commitment to supporting writers extends year-round. We’re building community and creating opportunities for connection, learning, and growth through ongoing programs and events.
Wordbridge Writing Group
Looking for a little motivation, creative energy, or simply some good company while you write? Wordbridge hosts a free monthly in-person writing group in Lethbridge, Alberta, open to writers of all experience levels. Whether you’re brand new to writing, working toward publication, or somewhere in between, everyone is welcome. Each gathering begins with a short, 10-minute mini-lesson or discussion, followed by plenty of dedicated writing time. Work on your own project or try one of our supplied writing prompts—the choice is yours. During the final 30 minutes, anyone who would like to can share some of what they’ve written, but sharing is always completely optional. It’s a relaxed, supportive space to meet other local writers, make new friends, explore your creativity, and get some words on the page together. There is no fee to attend. Reading Challenges, Poetry Contests & Drabble Challenges
Throughout the year, Wordbridge hosts a variety of reading challenges, poetry contests, drabble challenges, and other creative activities designed to keep our community reading, writing, and having fun. These opportunities change throughout the year, and everyone is welcome to participate. Some are just for the joy of the challenge, while others may include prizes—and, of course, the all-important bragging rights. Online Workshops & Presentations
Wordbridge hosts online workshops on a variety of writing, publishing, and creative topics, led by experienced authors, editors, and industry professionals. These sessions give writers opportunities to strengthen their craft, explore new ideas, and stay connected to the writing community throughout the year. Little Free Library Program
In partnership with Environment Lethbridge, we’re placing Little Free Libraries throughout the city. These small book exchanges promote literacy, sustainability, and community connection.
Raffles and 50/50s
Throughout the year, Wordbridge runs raffles, 50/50 draws, and other fundraising opportunities to help support our programs, events, and community initiatives. Taking part is an easy way to support the work we do while giving yourself a chance to win something along the way. New raffles and draws are offered at different times throughout the year, so check back regularly for current opportunities. You must be 18+ and a resident of Alberta to participate. Art Shows
Storytelling doesn’t stop at the written word! Throughout the year, Wordbridge looks for new ways to bring together the literary and visual arts communities in Lethbridge and beyond. Through art exhibitions, collaborative calls, and other creative initiatives, we aim to create opportunities for writers and artists to share their work, explore common themes, and connect with new audiences.
Our art initiatives may take different forms from year to year as we continue building partnerships and experimenting with new ways to support Southern Alberta’s creative community. Whether you’re an artist, writer, creative collaborator, or simply someone who loves seeing different art forms come together, we’d love to have you involved. Annual General Meeting
Wordbridge Writers’ Society holds its Annual General Meeting every year on September 15 from 7:00–8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
Our AGM is an opportunity to look back at the Society’s work over the past year, discuss plans and priorities for the year ahead, share organizational updates, and conduct the formal business required of the Society. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Whether you’re a writer, reader, artist, community member, potential volunteer, or simply curious about what Wordbridge does, the AGM is a great way to learn more about our programs, meet the people behind the Society, and discover ways to get involved.
The meeting is held online. Contact us to request the meeting link or learn more about attending. We’re always happy to welcome new voices into the Wordbridge community!
Word on the Street
Every September, Wordbridge joins Lethbridge’s Word on the Street festival, a celebration of books, storytelling, authors, and the literary community. You can find us at the Wordbridge booth throughout the festival—stop by to meet members of our team, learn more about the Society, and find out what we have coming up.
Want to get more involved? We also welcome volunteers to join us at the booth and help represent Wordbridge in the community.
When Words Collide (WWC)
Each August, Wordbridge heads to Calgary for When Words Collide, an annual literary festival bringing together writers, readers, publishers, and other industry professionals from across Alberta, Canada, and beyond. Visit the Wordbridge booth to meet members of our team, learn more about the Society, and find out what we have coming up throughout the year. Want to join us? We also welcome volunteers to help out at the booth and represent Wordbridge at the festival.
